Becoming A Goodman Games 3rd Party Publisher
It was early 2023 when I discovered Dungeon Crawl Classics (DCC) by Goodman Games. I know what you might be thinking, the D&D OGL controversy pushed me into looking at other TTRPGs. Nope, that’s not it, as I had not played a game of pen and paper D&D since 1988, and the last TTRPG I played was Star Wars by West End Games back in the early to mid 90s.
To be honest, I am not sure what brought my attention to DCC. I may have come across a YouTuber talking about it and decided to check it out.
How I got into DCC does not matter. What does matter is that late 2023 I decided to research becoming a Goodman Games 3rd Party Publisher.
Not A Big Game Player
Oddly enough I am not a big player of table top games. I do play them, though not that often. However, I do like watching other people play them, and I highly enjoy reading rule books like the DCC Player’s Manual, Pathfinder Player’s Manual, Star Wars, D6 System, D&D, you get the idea. In fact, I own all the main D&D system books (Player’s Manual and DM’s Guide) from the red box on to 5e, but have only played 1E at a table (Interestingly enough, I’ve played most of the D&D CRPGs since Pool of Radiance on the C64 in the late 80s).
What can I say, I just love reading game rules and mechanics.
To that end, I have always enjoyed writing my own adventures and coming up with ideas for adventures. I’ve even created a few of my own campaign settings since the mid 80s, and also enjoy writing short stories and novellas. As I wrote this blog post I am fifty years old, so I have been doing that a long time.
Several years ago I decided to design and publish tabletop games. Two of them out of several are published. They are simple card games with minimal mechanics and can currently be purchased at the Game Crafter website.
Here Comes Dungeon Crawl Classics
Back in 2023 I got the itch to set aside development on the the table top games I had been slowly working on, and set my sights on publishing TTRPG content. To that end, I have decided to focus on creating adventure content for DCC. I started in earnest just a month ago in early 2024.
With it comes fleshing out a favorite campaign setting I created many years ago and using it is the primary setting for the adventures I will be developing and publishing.
What to Expect
As of right now my campaign setting for Dungeon Crawl Classics is about 75% written without any art. I intend to release it for free on this website as a PDF download. There will be more information about my campaign setting coming in the next couple months. Down the road I may make this into a more ‘premium item’, such as a book, and sell it on Goodman Games and RPG DriveThru.
I have also begun work on a mini campaign book that will be either 3 or 4 adventures linked together that takes place in the campaign setting mentioned above. I have three adventures outlined and the first one completed written in a first draft. If I do say so myself, things feel like they are advancing at a steady pace.
However, I don’t want to rush this process in getting anything to print. I may create a Kickstarter around the mini campaign book, but before that I would want to build up some followers of my work.
Stay Tuned!
The intent of this blog post was to inform any current followers of my work that Asgard Gamewerks is shifting from general table top games to table top RPGs. In particular Dungeon Crawl Classics focused RPG content.
